Revolts and Rebellion: African American Activism Through the Years
The aim of activism is freedom, and if necessary to obtain liberty by force. The first settlement in the present day United States was home to a few hundred Trans-Atlantic Africans. In 1526 in the Spanish colony of modern-day South Carolina, some of the Aricans fled to Haiti and others fled to join Native American groups. They were fleeing illness and hostile environments as disagreements arose between Native Americans, Africans, and Spanish settlers. Since 1526, African descended people have been fighting for liberty, justice, and equity on the same soil.
